Campcraft Competition Prelims (Boys)

On 4 February 2012, the boys team of BBSS NPCC participated in the biannual Campcraft Competition organised by NPCC Headquarters. Held at the Home Team Academy, the competition aims to foster team spirit and efficiency in campcraft skills and also to inculcate a sense of competitiveness among cadets. Of which, all participating teams are tested on numerous aspects of their outdoor campcraft skills, including knots, lashings, flagstaff and tent-pitching.

CNY Celebrations 2011 =)

Following the weekly training on Friday, BBSS NPCC organised our mini-celebration for CNY with the traditional Lou Hei, where different ingredients including radish, ginger, cucumber, pomelo, peanuts, sesame seeds etc are tossed for prosperity and good luck. It was also a momentous day with our youngest batch of Sec 1 cadets joining the rest of the unit in the celebration.

On this note, we would like to wish all officers, teachers, cadets and alumni an awesome year ahead!

Sec 4 High Ropes Challenge

On 28 January 2012, 15 of our Secondary 4 cadets participated in the Area 18 High Ropes Challenge which was conducted at Pulau Ubin Camp Resilience. The HRC is a milestone event for all graduating cadets, and involves various exciting and challenging elements including the Advanced Ropes Challenge, Dangle Duo, Pamper Pole (Leap of Honour) and Double Flying Fox.

Over 2 weekends in January, cadets from BBSS NPCC, together with fellow students from BBSS participated in Project MI, a self-initiated donation drive aimed at providing the household staple to the less fortunate. Led by Cadet Inspector Jared Tan and his team of organising committee, the project had achieved an overwhelming 17 tonnes of rice!

On behalf of BBSS NPCC, we would like to thank the organising team, donors, teachers, students, cadets and every single person who had contributed to the success of Project MI.

Matilda’s Reflection:

I learnt how to trust my squadmates, also how to be fair to others, learn how to care of them and learnt to share our workload. I’ve also realized I’ve been a burden to them and they don’t blame me.

Alicia’s Reflection:

Hi, I’m Alicia. Basically through this 3D2N camp, I learnt a lot of stuff. Such like: Learning how to handle stress, how does it feel like to be a in-charge, how stressful it can be, how does it feel like to speak in front of a big crowd, my posture of standing when speaking, how problematic our juniors can be, what am I suppose to do when our juniors doesn’t co-operate etc.

Also, I learnt the importance of teamwork. On the second day of camp during breakfast, our hands/wrist are being tied up using twine. We got to have teamwork and co-operate with one another, or else we can never work things out. Not forgetting, I find myself more confident in speech, be it leading cheers or giving out instructions.

Wei Sheng’s Reflection:

Over the past three days during the USTC Camp, I’ve learned quiet a lot such as leadership skills. During the last 2 days of the camp, I have gained some hands on experience of being in charge. Even though it was only for a brief period, it was enough to let me get an overview of how it’s like being in charge. So, I would definitely use this experience and what I have learnt during this USTC camp and apply it when me and my squad take over the unit.

Shanice’s Reflection:

During this USTC camp, I have learnt much more than I expected. First of all, the whole purpose of this training camp is to train and teach us to be better leaders. I feel that this camp did not fail to do so. We learnt how to be responsible for our doings. For example, we were told to bring the batons with us. This allowed us to learn to be responsible to our juniors. Being given to have the chance to lead (PT, cheers), allowed us to gain experience from it. I’m sure that to have this experience, it would let us know, what we should do or what we should avoid. Also, when we were we given the chance to help out in the meals, the sec 3s were so stressed up. We needed to be on time and to make sure that everyone had enough portion of food. I think that learning to cope with stress is very important. As future leaders, we would need to plan for events or even camps. As time goes by, we would encounter many problems. We should always come up with the solution instead of thinking what the problem is. I have learnt that even though how stressful it is; we should always move on and not give up. Giving up so easily would only mean that this person has no perseverance. We should always persevere and move forward. I have achieved a lot from this camp and hope that my achievement would help me to become a better leader in the future. Thank you.

Nadia’s Reflection:

This camp has allowed me to bond with my squadmates and learn how to work together and communicate better with them. To me, this is important as I joined a year later than every one else. This camp has also helped me to gain some confidence at speaking out in front of groups which is important for a Cadet Leader. I have learnt many tips from the seniors about how to be a good leader.

Adeline’s Reflection:

USTC 2011 has really taught me many things. As we are going to be cadet leaders leading the unit next year, we were given some opportunities to have a feel of what it was like to organize a certain “event”. We were in charge of meals on the 2nd day of the camp. The food IC (Jasper) assigned us jobs such as serving the food etc. Through this, I have learnt that we have to work as a team to complete the assignment given to us within the time limit. Also, the Sec 4 seniors also gave us a few talks for example: the talk on leadership and what is expected of us as cadet leaders.

The camp has boosted my confidence by a little. I spoke up more. Also, we had to do MOI. We had to teach certain drills/campcraft skills to our squadmates. Through MOI, I have become more confident.

Overall, the camp has been a fruitful one.

Lydia’s Reflection:

This camp was really a different camp in a way that it really changed us a lot. Compared to all the training camps we had, this was one of the camps that we honestly learnt something and had change for the better. During this camp, all the secondary 3s were constantly asked to volunteer. We were asked to lead the PT, manage meals (example, lunch) and speak in front of groups. Through all this, we learnt to speak up, we learnt to be confident about what we are doing, and we also learnt to work as a team. We also had chance to lead something, so that we could face our "speaking in front of a group" fears. After this camp, I really had more confidence in myself and finally dared to speak up. Through the meals session where the secondary 3s had to prepare the meals, the food ICs had to give instructions to split the jobs to the other secondary 3s of what to do. Both Jermaine and Jasper agreed it was a really stressful job, but they did well. Although the meal sessions were not really well done, our squadmates really put in a lot effort and were quite satisfied with our results and our teamwork. In the camp, i learnt that leading isn't easy. You have to be a good role model, to gain respect from whom you're leading. You got to have self discipline, because every action you're doing is going to affect who you are leading. We also learnt how to teach with MOI (method of instructions ) which would help us in future when we are going to teach the juniors new things. Overall, the camp really changed and affected us in a good way, for me and my squadmates.

Brian’s Reflection:

The Unit Specialist's Training Camp (USTC) has made a huge difference in me, as i was told how to lead and to be a responsible leader. The seniors also share their experiences with us, which furthermore give as a clear idea of how to lead and handle our cadets especially the upcoming sec 1s.Batons was also issue to us and we were told to handle it like our own juniors, making us more responsible, The fact of Officers walking around stealing our batons, also help us to be more responsible, being afraid to lose it. The Method of instructions(MOI), also make us a more confident person, as we were told to stand in front of our own squad and treat them like our own juniors, giving them instructions on how to execute the foot drills properly, for some of us it would be breaking the fear of speaking in front of the audience. This camp also taught us to be that ranks are not that important. Leadership is more important than anything. This purpose of this camp is not only for us to receive our Sergeant rank, but it is to build up the values of a leader in ourselves.

Haikal’s Reflection:

The Unit Specialist Training Camp organized from the 27th December to the 29th December 2011 was a fruitful camp. Through the camp, I have learnt several skills that are necessary to run the unit in the year 2012. The camp has also taught me to be a little bit more confident in passing down instructions and gathering feedback from cadets regarding the camp. I have also learnt the importance of feedback in helping to improve future camps or trainings. The hands-on experience on handling lunch was a good experience. It shows that what seems to look simple is actually quite a stressful.

In a nutshell, the camp has opened my eyes and made me realize that running the unit is no simple task. We have to look after the welfare of the cadets and make sure that everything runs smoothly. We have to uphold BBSS NPCC’s standards or even try to improve it. 2012 will be our turn to run the unit.

Jerome’s Reflection:

Just a few days ago, we had our Unit Specialist Training Camp, a 3-day camp meant to teach us future Sec 3s skills on how to take over the Unit in 2012, which is already this year. I have learnt many things and these are some of my experiences.

In order to teach us to be future Cadet Leaders, our HODs taught us about being able to lead others and working under stress. We learnt about leading others by doing the MOI (Method of Instruction), where we had to teach our squadmates a command using this method. Here, I found myself being nervous and stammering here and there, but my voice was loud enough and my squadmates could hear what I was saying. I hope to work on my MOI so that I will be able to teach my juniors better next time. We also had to lead cheers during PT and after lunch so that the Sec 2s could learn the cheers and teach the future Sec 1s.

We learnt how to work under stress when we were tasked with being in-charge of the meals for everyone else during the 2nd and 3rd days. We had to ensure that everyone has enough food and that the food is finished. We also needed to make sure that the dishes are clean and the canteen is neat before falling-in. Through this, I have learnt about division of labor with my squadmates and sometimes forcing people to do things that they do not want to do, such as scooping more food into their plates even though they do not want any. This helps us as in the near future, many times, we will have to make our juniors do things they don’t like doing.

During my Sergeant Promotion Test, my uniform was not in good condition and I lost a lot of marks. I also did not do well for my MOI, as despite my loud voice, but due to my nervousness, I could not speak properly and failed to get my squadmates to understand the command.

Hence, it was not surprising that I failed my Sergeant Test, but I did not come to USTC to get promoted, I came here to learn about being Cadet Leaders and leading our juniors to keep the standard of BBSS NPCC. The things that I have learnt here can not only be used in NPCC, but also in my daily life. Nevertheless, I want to work hard to get my Sergeant rank and live up to the expectations of the unit.

Ajit’s Reflection:

Last week, BBSS NPCC had their USTC (Unit Specialist Training Camp) The sec 2 and some sec 3 had to come on the 27 Dec. The sec 3’s came to teach the sec 2 (my squad) on how to be leaders and as well as how to take over the unit. At the start of the camp, we were also given batons. At first, I didn’t understand why they gave us the batons. The Sir’s explained to us. They told us that the baton was our junior and we had to take care of it. As time passed, people started losing their batons. It was taken when they were not noticing it. This has taught me how to be responsible to what that has be assign to us.

On the second day, I was to lead the PT session for the whole unit. This alone has taught me to be confident when speaking in front of a large group. Based on the feedbacks that I received, I realised that my instructions were not clear. For the SGT test, we had to teach our own squad a certain command. This has given me a boost in speaking in front of my squad and more confident to speak to my juniors.

On the last day of the camp, we had to do area cleaning. Just this simple task alone has taught me to be responsible for what we used. We also had a parade to give out the ranks and badges. It was very sad to find out some didn’t get their rank. But for me, the rank does not matter. Most important is that we learn a valuable lesson in our 4 years in NPCC.

Jasper’s Reflection:

During this camp, I’ve learnt many things. I’ve learnt how to lead the rest of the squad, when we are asked to give commands to the rest of our squad during drills session on day 2. Throughout the whole time while I was giving the commands I was very nervous, however, I tried my hardest and gave my best. Finally, with the help of Senior Ting Wei and the rest of my squad, I completed what I was tasked to do by him. This made me learn that I need to be more confident in what I do and that I need to be calm to handle the situation well.

Next, I’ve learnt how to take control of situations. One such example was during meal times, when I was tasked to take the role of Food IC. During the first lunch where I took the job as food IC, I was much stressed. With the help of my other squad mates I manage to pull through, though I broke down thereafter. After having a heart to heart talk with the Sirs and seniors, I learnt that I have to set realistic expectations and goals to myself. And as a Food IC, I have to assign jobs to the rest of my squad mates and not do everything myself. I took the role of the Food IC during dinner time for the second time, and as compared to the first lunch, I felt I did a much better job in handling the food, the officers, the seniors and my juniors.

Throughout USTC, I’ve learnt to be more confident in everything I do, and when answering the Sirs and seniors when they ask a question. I’ve also learnt to be confident when I speak to a big group of people. Trust, is one other thing I’ve learnt in this camp. We need to trust our own squad mates, seniors, Sir, Ma’am. One example is when we are doing the trust run. Without trust, we won’t be able to have the courage to run through the ‘Bridge’.

To sum up my reflection, The USTC changed me a lot in a way that it changed and improve on how I lead and take control. USTC made me more confident in myself, and made me more confident in speaking up and communicating to the seniors and sir.

Jermaine’s Reflection:

During this USTC, I learnt a lot of knowledge from my seniors and officers. They taught us a lot of things that we were supposed to learnt about taking over the squad next year. I was being tasked to be a Food IC during one of the meals. This had made me experience of what it like is to be an in-charge of something. Through this, I also learnt that a leader should assigned jobs and share the workload with others.

During this camp, it was also our promotion test. Although I did not pass my test, but through this experience of failure, it had me a stronger person and I would definitely work harder to achieve my rank. Also, through games and jobs that were assigned to us, our squad became more bonded and we trust each other more. Most of us are now more confident of speaking to bigger groups of people and I am one of them that gained a lot more confidence during this camp.

To end off, this camp had changed a better person out of me and I believe I am a much stronger person than before.

Campcraft Competition 2012

Campcraft Competition is a HQ organised competition held once every 2 years. In this competition, units come together and have a test of their outdoor camping skills.

It aims to :

1. Encouraging team spirit amongst cadets

2. Testing and upgrading campcraft skills

3. Promoting efficiency in conducting outdoor activities

4. Motivate a competitive spirit amongst cadets

Nevertheless, we have finalized our campcraft teams who will be representing the unit in February 2012 in the preliminary round.

USTC - Unit Specialist Training Camp.

The aim of the camp is as follow :

1. To provide an avenue of development for cadets’ pathway to being a Specialist

2. To empower cadets with the necessary skills in fulfilling their duties as a Specialist

3. To inspire cadets to partake a higher role as a Specialist in the Unit

4. To enable cadets to lead the Unit along with the Officers

I hope that everyone has learnt something from this camp.

Due to some unforseen circumstances, our Sec 2s cadets were not promoted to their first rank in their previous promotion test, Sec 2s are called back this time for their promotion test. We are glad that all those who have attend are able to promote to their next rank. Sec 2s, don't be complacent. You still have a long way to match up to your seniors standards. (:

Especially to those upcoming Sec 3s who will be taking over the unit in less than 3 months time. We know that you all have faced high level of stress during camp, but this is just the starting. There are more challenges to come, all of you will have to learn and overcome them. Believe in yourself, you can do it!!

Campcraft Selection 2011 for 2012 Campcraft Competition.

Should you not come prepared for the selection and drag the timing, please be prepared to come down on Thursday morning for completion.

The past weekend was an exciting and exhausting one for BBSS NPCC as our Sec 2 and Sec 3 cadets participated in the annual ATC/STC and the PYA Roadshow. From 11 - 13 Nov 2011, 28 cadets journeyed across the island to Pulau Ubin, where the milestone events were held at the Noordin and Bahru Campsite of Camp Resilience respectively. BBSS NPCC was also the organising school for STC 2011, with CI Jared Tan and CI Eugene Ong as the 2 course coordinators.

Reflections for June Camp 2011 (2)

During 13 June to 15 June 2011, the BBSS NPCC unit had a memorable training camp. However, this time round, this camp is much more unusual then any other camps the unit had before.

In this camp, the appointment holders of the unit (Head of Department in the NPCC unit) were each assigned to one officers as a mentee. They are to learn to think like an officer , view things like an officer and how to handle a camp or even an organized event for any activity.

“Through this camp, I indeed had learnt to be more mature in my thinking. We, as HODs of the unit, have to organize trainings and activities for the cadets. However, in any instructions that are to be given to the cadets, we have to think twice before giving it. We have to repeatedly remind ourselves of this few questions, “ If we were them(the cadets), what will they feel?”, “Is it reasonable for them to do it?” Besides, we must always be reminded that, in whatever we do or say, there must be a reason for every action that we do.”

Reflections for June Camp 2011 (1)

On 13 to 15 June, We have our JUNE CAMP. It was fun. There are a lot of things that we have learn. We understood why the Officers make such a decision. They care for the cadets's welfare more than anything.

We have our own mentors which is our Officers that we have to follow. For the mentees which is the HOD, we have learnt to act as a Officers and understood how the Officers react with the situation. This camp is well planned by the Officers. Many things that happen was in control.

Instructions were to pass in a orderly manner or there would be miscommunication. I now think that the old cadet, which is me, have a funny thinking. I have became mature and would lead the cadets to great success!

June Camp 2011

On the 13 to 15 of July, BBSS NPCC held it's June Training camp. The purpose of the camp was to keep the cadets proficient in the skills and abilities expected of an NPCC cadet - drill precision, tying of knots for tent-pitching, theoretical knowledge of basic events organisation and scenario based problem solving. The camp started at 9AM and the first activity was the attire and bag check. Campers then proceeded with bunking in and the cleaning of their bunks, after the camp induction and basic survival skills, it was time for lunch. After lunch, campers had a campcraft lesson on knots and lashings, followed by a lecture on PT etiquette conducted by CI Jared and their evening PT. It was then time for dinner/survival cooking. Followed up with washing up, debriefing & reflections, finally it was time for some much needed rest.

After the PT session, it was time for dinner/survival cooking. Followed by a debriefing & reflection time on the activities for today and what went wrong. Mainly, campers were told to reflect on what they could do better and what did they do that was not right. It was then time for lights out at 2300.

Day 2

At 6AM, the officers had a surprise bunk check while the cadets were still sleeping. They were told to fall in outside the room, leaving no time for them to pack up. They then had a changing of bunks session were campers were told to fall in in front of bunk to bunk. This was because the girls bunk was too near to the back gate and the officers felt that it was unsafe.

It was then time for breakfast. Followed by a lesson on tent and flagstaff pitching.

Crime Scene Investigation Course @ HTA

On 13 Jul 2011, Ting Wei, Leonard, Aaron, Hui Shun, Hui Xin and I went to Home Team Academy for the CSI course. I had expected the course to be rather boring as we are the first batch that went for this course and the course curriculum was still not fully developed yet.

However, the course turned out to be a very interesting and fruitful one as it showed us how the police solve crimes via fingerprint dusting, taking down accounts from witnesses and collecting evidence from the crime scene. Although we have such skills and technology, solving a crime is difficult.

The place we went to is known as Training Village, which is designed for officers from the various Home Team Departments, such as the Singapore Police Force, Immigration and Checkpoint Authority of Singapore and Singapore Prisons Service to conduct their training. Of which, the gallery which we visited is designed for cadets like us learn about solving crime and have a better understanding of the work of the investigation officers in SPF.

As a conclusion, this is a very good course for all NPCC cadets and I do recommend the rest to participate in.

NPCC LCP Promotion Test

To all Sec 1 cadets, this upcoming friday (22 July) will be your LCP promotion test.

Do revise all the drills that the SEC 3s had taught you all for the last few training.

Reflections on 15/7 Training (2)

I have learnt more about planning a training while planning for the 15/7/11 weekly's unit training, unlike the previous time where everybody tried to plan, I went to
negotiate venues and found out about their schedules before planning as the previous time, our venues clashed with 2 other uniform groups, I learnt my lesson ever since and gained more experience from this training.

I also have learnt that the wet weather program is very important as the amount of activites and venue would be extremely limited, hence, much more difficult to plan and even harder to execute due to the limited venues so we would be clashing with the other uniform groups and would not be able to carry out the activity as we had planned it to be, as for the both times I planned the training, it rained.

Being the organiser, I experienced a lot of pressure from everybody, this just helps me learn to handle the pressure better and perform the same even under pressure which is extremely helpful.

Lastly, I would like to thank the officers for guiding me along the execution process, like giving tips and advice on what to do and also the sec 3s for being very
cooperative with me throughout the training and barely any arguements happened and the HODs for giving me this opportunity to plan the weekly training.

Reflections on 15/7 Training (1)

It has been a meaningful training session for our unit. I will like to give thanks to Gerald Hay for putting in an effort to organise this week’s training schedule and the rest of my squad mates who helped to execute the training smoothly. I will also like to thank our juniors for attending the weekly trainings too, keeping our spirit for NPCC burning.

When asked Matilda, from the secondary 2 squad, what has she learnt from the training, she replied saying ‘to persist and not giving up in what we do.’ Reason given will be during the drills session, the secondary 2 cadets were punished to run from one spot to another for 6 times. Although they were exhausted, they managed to complete their punishment without any complains. Great job!

One word describing the games organised on that day would be fun, quoted from Sarah of the secondary 1 squad. Such games would be ‘paper plate madness’. In the game of ‘paper plate madness’, the sec 1’s and 2’s were split into groups and they fought hard against one another, with a winner at the end! Congratulations to the leading team.

The training ended with a surprise birthday bash for our Head Of Admin, Boon Kang. It was indeed a pleasant surprise planned by the whole unit, with the unit singing the birthday song for him. Happy birthday!

Signing off, let us be reminded to continue attending our weekly training sessions and to keep our passion for NPCC alive as always! (:

BBSS NPCC held its Passing Out Parade on 14 Jun 2011 as part of the Unit Standardisation Exercise during the recent June Training Camp. The parade saw the passing down of leadership from the 24th to 25th Batch of Cadet Leaders and the issuance of ranks and badges for newly promoted cadets.

This promotion constitutes the first part of the Unit Standardisation Exercise, where cadets are evaluated based on their proficiency in the specified drills and campcraft components, weekly attendance, soft skills and conduct between January 2011 and June Training Camp. On behalf of BBSS NPCC, we would like to congratulate the following cadets on their promotion.

Trip down the Railway

Following the handing over of the KTM Railway to Singapore on 1 Jul 2011, the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station (completed in 1932) ceased to be the disembarking point for incoming passengers travelling via train into Singapore.

On 8 Jul 2011, BBSS NPCC Officers took a trip down the defunct railway line, which was open to the public for 2 weeks. We started off from the railway crossing at Choa Chu Kang Road next to the former Ten Mile Junction, passing by numerous landmarks such as the MINDEF HQ, Assumption English School, Salvation Army, Rail Mall, former Bukit Timah Fire Station, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, former Bukit Timah Post Office and finally the Bukit Timah Railway Station.

Our Amazing Race Winner Group: Group 1!!

Group 1’s word of thanks: My Group found the activities fun and interesting. We learnt the NPCC mission and how to work as a team. However, we felt that the word game could be more challenging.

Amazing Race 1st runner up: Group 2!!
Members: Damien, Kai Si, Zhan Yu, Jermaine, Alicia
Group 2’s word of thanks: Having teamwork is important in solving obstacles. We also needed perseverance, discipline and respect to other team members in order to complete the tasks given. Although some of us are not as capable as the rest in terms of skills, but with the teamwork among us, we manage to complete the whole Amazing Race together. We need to improve on our sense of urgency and not afraid of losing pride. Areas for improvement for the Amazing Race include having more time and more interesting stations.

Group 3’s word of thanks: We learnt how to demonstrate teamwork as we try out best to complete the “hangman” station. We learnt perseverance at the campcraft section and we have learnt how to find humour during the dance. We took up the challenge by the DM to peg through the hard ground and we did it! Overall, it was fun we bonded and know each other better ^^. Lastly, we learn how to dance at the 5th floor parade square.

Group 4’s word of thanks: We learnt teamwork throughout the day- we sweat together, learnt together, had fun together. We liked all the games proposed to us. We learnt the knots. We took up challenges. We cooperated together. After this Amazing Race we are much more bonded and know/understand more about each other.

Reflections from organiser Yin Hui:
I want to thank my beloved HODs, Officers and Squadmates for giving me opinions, help, concerns and opportunity to plan our NPCC's weekly training. Special thanks to my Tze Guang and my squadmates who have been helping me a lot throughout the whole planning process.

I have actually learnt a lot from this experience, but I will just name the most important lesson that I have learnt. Although the activities in my proposal seemed to be very well organised, where everything fits in nicely, Ms Leong pointed out that not every activity will flow smoothly and swiftly as there will definitely be hiccups or delays during execution. Therefore, it is important to anticipate and think of these solutions to these problems ^^

Annual Awards Ceremony 2011

The Annual Awards Ceremony 2011 was held on 15th April 2011, with BBSS NPCC forming the Guard of Honour contingent and supported by 6 other contigents comprising of the Boys' Brigade, Girls' Brigade, NCC (Land), NCC (Sea), Girl Guides and St John Ambulance Brigade.

It was the commitment and concerted effort from the directing officer, the various teachers-in-charge, the BBSS Band, the CIs and the cadets from the various CCA groups which had brought about the success of the ceremony. Despite the wet weather, it did not put a dampener to the ceremony as everyone witnessed the warm hearts of the cadets amidsts the heavy downpour in the indoor sports hall.

First Training of Term 3

1st July 2011 marks the first training in Term 3 for BBSS NPCC after the June break. Following the muster parade, the newly appointed Heads of Departments took over the first half of the training session, where the junior and senior squads went through the stipulated lesson plan for drills.

During the debriefing component, the officers briefed the various squad levels on the calendar of events, their expectations and the latest developments within BBSS NPCC. Cadets who were absent from the training are reminded to check with your peers on the issues that were covered and retrieve the relevant parent letters issued to the various levels.

All cadets should also note that they should bring a standardised 1.5 litre bottle from the next training onwards, and the full set of uniform to the training, unless otherwise stated.

June Holidays 2011 Highlights Part 1

Packed with a whole lot of activities, June 2011 had been a fun-filled and enriching month for BBSS NPCC! The events included:

Highlights from the Leadership and Mentoring Skills Course 2011 @ Home Team Academy

Cadet Leaders-to-be planning for their lessons.

Held on 9-10 June 2011 at the Home Team Academy, Session 3 of the Leadership and Mentoring Skills Course 2011 (LMSC) saw 506 Sec 3 cadet leaders-to-be from Areas 17, 18, 19 and 20 come together to participate in the 2 day course. Being the overall coordinator of the LMSC, it was the first time that I had to stand in front of such a huge crowd to talk but it was a great experience nevertheless.

20 of our Sec 3 cadets participated in the LMSC, of which they went through lectures and group activities covering 5 major topics, namely Leadership, Communications, Team Dynamics, Lesson Planning and Methods of Instructions. The LMSC was aimed to help cadet leaders-to-be understand what they can expect as they take on their roles as seniors in the unit, and provide opportunities for them to learn and grow as an individual. On a personal note, I hope everyone had taken something away that is useful in your NPCC and academic life. On behalf of the working committee, I wish all the Sec 3s the very best and remember what Mr Soh had shared during the June Training Camp:

Revamping of Unit Website and Appointment of 25th Batch of Cadet Leaders

Welcome to the website of BBSS NPCC! As you have noticed, the blog has undergone a major change in terms of layout and content. Of which, the organisational structure and unit information have been updated, while items such as drills, campcraft, song and cheers have been newly introduced.

We hope to complete the revamp within the next 2 weeks, after which the onus will be on the Sec 1, 2 and 3s to set the direction and keep this blog running.

On behalf of the officers, we would also like to congratulate the 25th Batch of Cadet Leaders on their official appointment, starting Term 3 2011.
